Ever wonder how a grassroots fundraiser goes from $0 to raising over $46 million for cancer research in just four years? The short answer: generosity, tenacity and some really extraordinary bike riders.
Express is excited to be a part of Pelotonia’s fundraising efforts again this year, and to kick things off we’re throwing a concert complete with Columbus-only acts that are sure to knock your socks off.
The Regrettes are a Columbus, Ohio female-fronted soul and R&B revival band. Their stock in trade is the raw, rootsy sound of early Stax records, the pounding rhythms of Motown and the vocal delivery of luminaries like Aretha, Martha and Etta. Their songs are fierce, nuanced and suited for sweaty, late-night floor-filling congregations baptized by alcohol.
Singers (and tambourine Jedi masters) Mehgan Hutchinson and Lizzy Morris trade sultry harmonies on lines about love, revenge and all the complicated emotions in between. The rhythm section of drummer Adam Scoppa and bassist Dan Barnes provides a sturdy backbone for James Allison’s agile keys and Dennis Tanner’s economic guitar work.
Spencer is a 20-year-old, self-taught singer/songwriter from Pickerington, Ohio whose incredible vocals deliver a stylistic combination of pop-meets-R&B.
Spencer is currently working with Grammy-winning songwriter and producer Andreas Carlsson, and O.A.R. band member, Jerry DePizzo on songs for his debut CD that is set to release soon.
When he was just 16-years-old, Josh Krajcik schemed his way onto the stage of a bar near his hometown of Wooster, Ohio. Over the next 14 years, Krajcik fronted a host of musical projects and eventually founded the Josh Krajcik Band, a three-piece blues-rock outfit that toured with the likes of Corinne Bailey Rae and The Fray and appeared on the Bonnaroo Music Festival’s 2006 lineup.
By 2011 Krajcik was fighting to sustain his music career, and ended up taking a job at a burrito joint to make ends meet. On a whim, Krajcik then auditioned for The X Factor USA—and soon found himself wowing audiences with his gravelly-rich voice on the show’s premiere season. Now, Krajcik is set to release a debut solo EP and full-length album that pair his powerful vocals with soul-infused songwriting.
